Chelsea target Nabil Fekir edging closer to new Lyon deal
According to Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas, Chelsea target Nabil Fekir is edging closer to a contract extension with the French outfit, the Mirror report.
The Blues were reportedly interested in Fekir’s services in January, however, boss Maurizio Sarri only managed to add striker Gonzalo Higuain to the first-team squad last month.
Fekir, who has been one of the star performers across the top European leagues this season, is also a target for Chelsea’s Premier League rivals Liverpool, who almost completed a £53 million deal for the playmaker in the summer.
The 25-year-old has impressed in Ligue 1 this season and has found the back of the net 11 times for Lyon during the current campaign, netting the winner against Guingamp on Friday night.
And president Aulas admitted that there have been ‘advances’ in discussions.
We have made some advances in Fekir’s contract extension, we are discussing it and soon I’ll have to see Nabil, we aren’t in the final stages but in any case we have advanced.
Fekir’s original contract runs out at the end of next season and Chelsea will face an even tougher task in bringing the midfielder to Stamford Bridge if the French international does pen a contract extension.
