Chelsea linked with Ajax star Matthijs De Ligt

Chelsea have joined the race to sign highly-rated teenager Matthijs De Ligt according to Mundo Deportivo, via Sports Witness .

Whilst the Blues have been linked with De Ligt, it is worth noting that clubs all over Europe are reportedly interested in the defender with Juventus, Barcelona and Bayern Munich reportedly leading the race to secure the 19-year-old in the summer.

The young Dutch defender has caught the attention of major clubs all over Europe in the last two seasons as he’s impressed at Ajax, taking the captain’s armband last year at just 18 years of age, making him the youngest person to ever captain the Amsterdam side.

Alongside new Barcelona signee Frenkie De Jong and Roma winger Justin Kluivert, De Ligt has been the latest product of the world-famous Ajax Academy to make the step up to the first team. He impressed in Ajax’s recent Champions League game against Real Madrid which Mundo Deportivo report will have only driven up the price for any potential suitors.

This may be a further indicator that Maurizio Sarri and the board are looking to decrease the average with the Blues having the sixth oldest squad in the Premier League according to statistics website Transfermarkt.

Luka Jovic and Nicolo Barella have also been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge in the last month as Chelsea look to move towards a new era in West London.
