Dortmund unwilling to let Pulisic join Chelsea for America friendly

Chelsea have been denied the opportunity to give Christian Pulisic an early debut.

A report from ESPN reveals that the Blues were hoping their latest big-money signing could join them in America for their friendly game against New England Revolution.

However, that will not be the case, with the player set to see out the season with Borussia Dortmund.

The report cites the close Bundesliga title race as one of the key factors behind Dortmund’s reasoning for not granting an early departure for the winger.

Dortmund are battling for the title with Bayern, with the Bundesliga season running until May 18. Chelsea’s friendly is scheduled for May 15.

With the game set to take place near Boston, having Pulisic in the squad would have been a huge commercial pull for the club as they look to expand their American presence.

The game against New England Revolution will be part of the club’s ‘Say No to Antisemitism’ initiative.
