Ranieri looks set to take over at Roma despite Sarri talks

Roma are set to appoint Claudio Ranieri to replace Eusebio Di Francesco after the Italian was sacked as Roma boss on Thursday.

Ranieri, who only lost his job at Fulham recently, is a shock replacement for the outgoing Di Francesco, despite Roma holding talks with Maurizio Sarri.

Sarri had reportedly been on the verge of the sack at Chelsea but is still in charge at Stamford Bridge.

Roma reportedly held talks with Sarri before the Carabao Cup final, which the Italian would go on to lose on penalties.

However, it looks likely that Ranieri will take over at Roma, despite having a less than stellar record since leaving Leicester City.

The Guardian have Ranieri as the favourite for the Roma job, with Di Francesco losing his job after his side were knocked out the UEFA Champions League.

Roma suffered an extra time defeat to FC Porto, with the Portuguese side making it through to the quarter-finals.
