Chelsea blocked Christensen’s Juve loan move in January

Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen appeared to be set for a switch to Juventus in January until the club stepped in and blocked the move.

According to a report from Italian news outlet Calciomercato, the centre-back was more than willing to depart Stamford Bridge for Turin midway through the season.

Christensen has struggled for regular game time under Maurizio Sarri at Chelsea this term. The boss has favoured a defensive partnership of Antonio Rudiger and David Luiz, leaving the young Dane on the sidelines.

This apparently prompted Juventus to pursue a temporary move for the player as they sought a replacement for Medhi Benatia in the January transfer window.

With Christensen keen on the move, Massimiliano Allegri’s side seemed to be closing in on signing the former Borussia Monchengladbach loanee until the end of the season.

However, as per the report from Calciomercato, Chelsea stepped in and denied their defender the move, but he remains interested in a summer switch to Juventus should the opportunity arise again.
