Maurizio Sarri gives positive Gonzalo Higuain injury update

Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri has revealed that striker Gonzalo Higuain ‘should’ be able to play against Everton on Sunday, football.london report.

The 31-year-old didn’t make the trip to Ukraine earlier in the week for the Blues’ Europa League second-leg fixture against Dynamo Kiev due to a fever.

Higuain’s replacement, Olivier Giroud, netted a perfect hat-trick in a dominant performance by the Blues, with Marcos Alonso and Callum Hudson-Odoi also getting on the scoresheet in a 5-0 win.

The Argentine has scored just three times since arriving at Stamford Bridge on loan in January, with many still unsure if he is the answer to Chelsea’s firepower problems.

Despite this, boss Sarri has given a positive update over the experienced forward’s fitness, claiming Higuain’s problem isn’t serious.

We will see [if Higuain will be fit]. He had a bad stomach ache with a fever earlier this week.

It’s not a serious problem, so he should be able to play, but I don’t know yet. We will see.

Even though Higuain is set to be available for selection at Goodison Park this weekend, Sarri may well decide to give Giroud a first Premier League start of the year following his impressive performance in the week.
