Chelsea head coach Maurizio Sarri appears to be once again on the brink of losing his job in London after a 2-0 defeat against Everton.
Following the defeat against the Merseyside outfit, there are fresh reports that the Italian could be out of a job during the international break.
On face value, this may be a smart move by Chelsea. It allows them time to bring in a short-term replacement and have some time with the players on the training ground, but will the Blues make their move?
In case they do, we’ve looked at some short-term replacements that could come step into the role until the end of the season.
Gianfranco Zola
Gianfranco Zola is somebody who is already in and around the club, but there have been contrasting reports about his future and what could happen to the club legend if Sarri is to lose his job.
Jose Mourinho
You can never rule Jose Mourinho out of a job at Chelsea. He’s come back once before and you can imagine it would be hard for him to turn down such an opportunity in the Premier League having missed out on the Real job recently.
John Terry
John Terry would no doubt love the chance to get himself in the home dugout at Stamford Bridge. As short-term options go, he could be ideal to see the Blues through until the end of the season.
Steve Holland
If it’s not John Terry, then nobody knows the club better than Steve Holland. He was such a crucial figure behind the scenes during his time at the club, something that was not truly appreciated until he had left. Chelsea will be hoping to sweet talk the FA into a deal.
Laurent Blanc
Laurent Blanc has long been linked with the Premier League and Chelsea could present him with an opportunity to showcase what he can offer to clubs.
He has been out of work for some time now, but he’s a relatively ‘big name’ in the game who could do a job until the summer.
Guus Hiddink
Who else? For as long as Roman Abramovich is making the big calls, Guus Hiddink will be on the list of short-term candidates for Chelsea if the club ever need a manager in their time of need.
