Higuain’s stay at Chelsea in doubt

Gonzalo Higuain is unlikely to remain at Chelsea beyond this season, according to Calciomercato.

The 31-year-old joined the Blues on loan from Juventus in January, following another temporary spell at AC Milan.

Chelsea have the option to extend his loan by another season, or even sign him permanently.

Higuain has struggled to find his shooting boots in England, however, scoring just three goals in 10 appearances, two of which came at home to struggling Huddersfield Town.

The report states that Chelsea had expressed a desire to sign Higuain for a discounted fee, but an agreement could not be made.

That means the Argentine striker is now likely to return to Juventus in the summer, before moving on swiftly from the Serie A champions.

With Cristiano Ronaldo now the star man in Turin, and with current evidence suggesting Higuain has drifted past his peak, it is understandable why he has been deemed surplus to requirements.
