Ajax beat Chelsea to Hallen deal

Ajax have beaten the likes of Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund to the signing of Rio Hallen from AZ Alkmaar.

According to Dutch reports, a host of clubs were interested in signing the 16-year-old, with PSV also keen.

However, unfortunately for Chelsea and other potential suitors, it is Ajax that Hallen has decided to commit his future too.

Chelsea have a recent history of scouring the Netherlands for their best young talents, with the likes of Daishawn Redan among some of the club’s highest-rated young players.

Ajax themselves have a tremendous record of bringing through young players and Hallen will no doubt be inspired by their recent success in the Champions League.

The stories of both Frenkie De Jong, who has agreed to join Barcelona in the summer and Matthijs de Ligt, who is looking likely to follow him, show that chances are available at a senior level for youngsters at Ajax.
