Hamstring injury rules Alonso out of Brighton game

Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso has been ruled out of Wednesday night’s game against Brighton.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, as reported by Simon Johnson, Maurizio Sarri confirmed the player is struggling with a hamstring injury.

Alonso started Sunday’s win over Cardiff but has been in and out of the team in recent weeks.

The Spaniard has been battling with Emerson for a starting spot in all competitions.

Alonso has not been at his best in recent months, but to his credit has reacted well to the added competition from Emerson. It was the Spaniard who assisted Cesar Azpilcueta’s goal to draw Chelsea level against Cardiff.

Emerson now looks set to be given a chance to impress in the Premier League, an opportunity that has come few and far between for the Italian under Sarri this season.

Sarri also added that N’Golo Kante, Eden Hazard and Callum Hudson-Odoi are all likely to start against Chris Hughton’s side.
