Giroud believes Chelsea “can match” Liverpool
Olivier Giroud believes Chelsea have the ability to “match” Livepool on Sunday afternoon, when Maurizio Sarri’s side travel to Anfield in what is a crucial game for both sides.
The Blues can move above rivals Tottenham into third with a win, and strengthen their push for a top four finish, while Liverpool will be aiming to continue their pursuit of a Premier League title with victory over Chelsea.
Jurgen Klopp’s side began the day one point clear of Manchester City, who play Crystal Palace prior to the Blues’ trip to Anfield, and striker Giroud told the club’s official website that Chelsea can “match” the Reds’ on Sunday.
We are looking forward to this game. As competitors we want to play these big games. Liverpool is fighting for the title. They will have to win for sure to stay in the title race, but we need a good result as well to keep our chances for the Champions League race.
We need to be careful because we don’t want to expose ourselves too much. We know their quality, especially in counter-attacks. They have three amazing strikers. We are going to work on that. But we showed in the game at home we can compete with them, we can match them, so we need to go there and start the game on the front foot and believe in our qualities.
Giroud is expected to start on the bench but will surely be used by Sarri if the Blues are chasing the game towards the latter stages.
Chelsea are unbeaten at Anfield since May 2012 in the league and cup respectively, and haven’t tasted defeat against the Reds in the last five in all competitions.
