Slavia Prague proved to be surprisingly tough competition for Chelsea, with the Blues still managing to progress to the Europa League semi-final.
After winning 2-0 in the first leg, Chelsea would have felt comfortable to be 3-0 up inside the first 20 minutes of the reverse fixture.
However, Slavia weren’t ready to take the game lying down, bringing the score to 4-3 by full-time, seeing Chelsea progress via an aggregate score of 5-3.
Pedro opened the scoring in the fifth minute, before Slavia defender Simon Deli doubled the lead through an own goal before the 10 minute mark.
Pedro added to his goal with an assist for Olivier Giroud, who took the game seemingly beyond reach for the away side in the 17th minute, and Pedro got on the scoresheet again before the half hour mark, on the other side of Tomas Soucek’s strike for Slavia.
After the second-half restart, Petr Sevcik scored twice in quick succession to put pressure on the home side, who were able to close the game out.
Chelsea join fellow Premier League rival Arsenal, as well as Valencia and Eintracht Frankfurt in the final four of the competition.
