Giroud gives Chelsea latest warning about his future

Olivier Giroud has again put pressure on Chelsea to consider offering him a new deal, hinting that he has plenty of other options this summer.

The Frenchman has endured a frustrating time of things this season, often failing to be a regular under Maurizio Sarri.

He has found himself fighting both Alvaro Morata and then Gonzalo Higuain for first team opportunities, often warming the substitutes’ bench.

It has led to speculation surrounding Giroud’s future, with the player making it perfectly clear that he will only stay if he becomes more of a key man.

In an interview with Telefoot, the 32-year-old has told Chelsea to make a decision about potentially extending his stay, or risk losing him:

There is no pressure. The club has this unilateral option (on me). But I am just doing my job and we will see what happens.

I still have a few good years ahead of me. So, there you have it, I hope to play a bigger role.

I know that there are clubs that are interested. I am going to meet with the board to discuss it all at the end of the season.

I am happy here, for the moment.

There is a feeling that Giroud has been hard done by at Stamford Bridge, with results often good when he is in the team.

He doesn’t represent the future, however, and it is unlikely that Sarri will change his side and be willing to use him more regularly.
