Chelsea are considering a bid to sign Nicolo Zaniolo from Roma in a deal that would see him remain in Italy on loan, but they face competition from Spurs.
According to reports in Italy from La Repubblica, as cited on Calcio Mercato, the Roma prospect is a man in demand after his breakthrough season in Italy.
The report claims that Spurs have already made a €50 million offer to sign the player.
However, with Chelsea willing to loan the player back to Roma, this could work in favour of both parties, if Roma are looking to sell.
Zaniolo has been linked with some big moves away from Rome after cementing himself as one of the club’s key players this season.
Previously, it had been Cengiz Under earning the headlines for Roma, but after joining from Inter as part of the deal for Radja Nainggolan, Zaniolo is the name on everyone’s lips.
Who else is being linked with Zaniolo and where should he go?
Anytime a promising young Italian comes to the fore, you can bet Juventus are interested in him. It’s easy to see why, but given the way the club have developed in recent years, are they ready to hand chances to young players like Zaniolo?
Real are said to be one of the teams looking at the Italian and this is another questionable possible next step for the player. Game time would be far from guaranteed given the talent already available at the club.
Arsenal were initially linked with the player earlier this season. While the lack of Champions League football may hinder them, you can certainly see an opening for him in London with Aaron Ramsey on his way to Turin.
Spurs are clearly looking to make a marquee signing this summer and with concerns over the future of Christian Eriksen, Zaniolo could be the man for them.
