Chelsea hierarchy aren’t convinced by Sarri, says ex-player

Maurizio Sarri will likely stay at Chelsea but the club’s hierarchy aren’t convinced by him, according to former Blues midfielder Craig Burley.

It has been an unpredictable first season for Sarri at Stamford Bridge, with a mix of great, good, average and bad all thrown in.

Supporters have not always been left convinced by the Italian’s methods, but he has still guided Chelsea to within touching distance of a top-four finish and Europa League glory.

Despite this, there is constant speculation surrounding Sarri’s future, with Blues legend Frank Lampard recently linked with replacing him.

Speaking on ESPN FC, pundit Burley says he believes the 60-year-old will earn a one-year extension, despite those high up at the club not rating him:

I think he will stay on, but I’m not convinced he’s the right man for the job. I think he deserves at least another year.

And I kind of think that’s how the Chelsea hierarchy see it.

The likelihood is they will give him another run but I don’t think they’re convinced, I certainly think the fans are not convinced.

Sarri’s future is likely to depend on what happens in the remaining few weeks of the season.

Should Chelsea qualify for the Champions League, either by winning the Europa League or by finishing in the top four, or both, it will be hard not to stick with him.

Failure to achieve that goal could be fatal, however.
