Jose Mourinho has claimed that he believes Chelsea star Jorginho is the ‘best midfielder in Europe’.
The former Blues boss discussed the influence of the Italy international, who has come in for plenty of criticism throughout his first campaign in English football.
Jorginho joined Chelsea last summer in a deal believed to have been worth £50 million, as Maurizio Sarri aimed to implement his style at Stamford Bridge with the ex-Napoli star at the centre of his plans.
However, it has been a problematic adaptation process for the midfielder, who despite his apparent struggles this season, has remained a mainstay in the manager’s starting line-up.
It seems a former Chelsea boss agrees with the current one, too, as Mourinho has waxed lyrical about Jorginho’s quality.
Speaking to beIN Sports, as cited in a report from Area Napoli, the Portuguese praised the midfielder as the best on the continent. He said:
For me, Jorginho is the best midfielder in Europe. He has a quality that no-one else has: the way he controls the game, how he recovers the ball in transition and how he can withstand the pressure. I don’t see others like him around.
