The agent of MVV Maastricht defender Xavier Mbuyamba hasn’t ruled out a move to Stamford Bridge for the teenager, despite the Blues’ upcoming transfer ban, according to Voetbal International, cited by Sport Witness.
Chelsea had their two-window transfer ban appeal rejected by FIFA last week, however, the Blues have continued to show a real interest in Mbuyamba.
The 17-year-old hasn’t yet put pen to paper on a professional contract with MVV Maastricht, despite being offered one, and could leave the Dutch side in the summer.
Mbuyamba is also being monitored by a plethora of European giants ahead of a possible move, including Celtic, Liverpool, FC Porto and Bayern Munich.
Despite plenty of interest, Mbuyamba’s agent admitted that Chelsea have the ‘best credentials’ for the player to develop over the coming years.
He would prefer to play somewhere in the first [team], but there are not that many central defenders of his age in the Netherlands get the chance. So, it’s about a choice where he can best develop in the youth.
At this moment, Chelsea have the best credentials. We now have to wait and see what his feeling is at that club. We are not quite sure yet what we are going to do, his development is central to that choice.
The teenager’s agent then gave a positive admission about the possibility of Chelsea signing Mbuyamba despite the Blues’ upcoming transfer ban.
That remains to be seen, even for us. The people at Chelsea look at what is possible. It is not excluded that Mbuyamba may not even be covered by a transfer ban, because he is still an amateur. But that’s guessing.
It remains unclear as to what will happen regarding Mbuyamba’s future, however, if Chelsea can somehow gain the services of the highly-rated defender, they may well have found their new central defender for the next decade.
