Chelsea will not be keeping Gonzalo Higuain next season after they decided to send him back to Juventus.
According to The Daily Mail, Chelsea have opted not to exercise their option to keep him on loan for another season and will, instead, let him return to Juventus after the Europa League final against Arsenal later this month.
Chelsea signed Higuain on loan from Juventus in January, with an option in the deal to either extend it for another season or sign him permanently for £31.6m.
Maurizio Sarri’s side have chosen neither and will look for a new forward to lead their line next season.
Tammy Abraham and Michy Batshuayi will both return to Stamford Bridge from their loan spells elsewhere and could stake a claim for the number nine shirt in the 2019/20 campaign.
Higuain has managed five goals in 21 appearances for Chelsea since his move, with his latest coming against Watford at the start of May.
Strikers Chelsea could sign to replace Higuain
The Serbian forward scored twice against Chelsea in the Europa League and has been sublime for Frankfurt this season. He would be a superb addition to Chelsea’s squad.
Cavani has long been linked with a move to Chelsea, after his many years of prolific seasons for Napoli and PSG, but could this finally be the year he makes the move to Stamford Bridge?
The Italian forward has been one of the best strikers in Europe in recent seasons for Lazio, proving his quality at the top level. Chelsea could bring him in to strengthen their attack.
Chelsea could opt to go all out and attempt to land Robert Lewandowski from Bayern Munich. He is one of the best strikers in the world, and has been for many years, and would almost guarantee goals.
