Chelsea struggling to sell Europa League final tickets

Chelsea are yet to sell out the 5,801 tickets they have been allocated for the Europa League final in Baku.

The decision to hold the final in Baku, Azerbaijan, has not been a popular destination among fans due to the inability to directly access the city, causing an increase in travel costs, which has resulted in many fans deciding against going to the match.

And according to the Evening Standard, Chelsea have already scrapped their loyalty point system and have opened the sale to more fans.

A source listed by the Evening Standard states that only 600 Chelsea season ticket holders have bought a final ticket, while it is understood that Arsenal will have more fans at the stadium at this time.

Both clubs’ Supporters Trust have released a joint statement on the situation:

Sadly, many (fans) have already decided that the cost and logistical difficulty of reaching the designated venue, Baku, means that they cannot attend.

Baku is one of the most inaccessible cities in Europe from the UK, with few direct flights from any western European destination. Fans who have been to 40+ games this season, loyal supporters by any definition, are unable to attend the climax of their club’s season, a dreadful reward for their season-long commitment.

In an effort to help more fans reach the final, a day travel ticket through Thomas Cook was set up for both sets of fans, however, the plan doesn’t include overnight stay and a price of £979 per person has not settled well with supporters.

The Blues will face their London rivals on May 29 in an effort to bring the Europa League trophy back to Stamford Bridge.
