Chelsea opt to extend Giroud’s contract

Chelsea have opted to activate a clause in Olivier Giroud’s contract that sees him stay at the club until the summer of 2021.

According to Get French Football News, Chelsea have decided to exercise the option to keep him at Stamford Bridge.

Giroud was poised to leave Chelsea this summer, with his previous deal expiring at the end of next month, but the club have moved swiftly to avoid that possibility.

The French striker only managed two goals in 27 Premier League appearances for Chelsea, although he was prolific in the Europa League with 10 strikes in 13 games – with a final coming up against Arsenal later this month.

He joined Chelsea from Arsenal in January 2018 and has scored 17 goals in 62 appearances for the club.
