Jorginho responds to Chelsea exit rumours

Jorginho has played down rumours suggesting he could head back to Italy with Maurizio Sarri this summer.

The midfielder arrived with a huge reputation at the start of the season, having been such a key man under Sarri at Napoli.

His playmaking ability was tipped to be a huge success in the Premier League, but he has struggled to fully convince.

With Sarri’s future up in the air, Jorginho has also been linked with heading home with his compatriot, potentially to Juventus.

Speaking to Sky Sport Italia, however, the 27-year-old says he intends to see out his contract at Chelsea, also questioning why Sarri would exit this summer:

I have four years on my contract with Chelsea.

I’d be surprised he [Sarri] did leave, because we are third in the Premier League behind Manchester City and Liverpool, we’re in the Europa League Final and reached the Carabao Cup Final.

It has been a positive season. Sarri is relaxed, even more so now than in other stages of the campaign.

While it is fair to feel underwhelmed by Jorginho’s first season with the Blues, plenty of foreign players have taken a while to settle in the past.

It would be a surprise if he moved on so early in his four-year deal, although Sarri could end up having a say in his decision, given his strong relationship with his manager.

matchday.
