Swansea City winger Daniel James looks set to become Manchester United’s first signing of the summer, but a recent report has revealed he is, in fact, a boyhood Chelsea fan.
According to The Times, the Welsh winger is on the verge of a £15 million to join Manchester United, in what a surprise deal after a breakthrough season in the Championship.
A host of clubs have been interested in a deal to sign James, but details have now emerged about James’ love for Chelsea.
It is claimed that the player supported the club as a boy and considers wantaway Belgian winger Eden Hazard as one of his idols who he bases his game around.
While there have not been any claims that Chelsea were ever interested in a deal, he is a player that the club will certainly be aware of after his exploits in the Championship with the Welsh side, as he prepares to try and make the step up to the Premier League.
Have Chelsea missed a trick by not battling for James?
He has shown his huge potential at Swansea this season and now a fully fledged Welsh international, James is only going to get better.
James won a lot of admirers when a clip of his speed went viral earlier this season. His deadly counter-attack goal against Brentford showed he is ready for the step up.
Love for the club
If Chelsea were ever in the running for James, the fact he is a boyhood supporter would have no doubt helped to try and persuade him.
Chelsea need a youthful attack
Pedro and Willian are not getting any younger, Eden Hazard looks set to leave. Chelsea need to add some fresh legs to their attack and James could have been a great long-term option.
