Derby set to target Gary Cahill if they achieve promotion

Chelsea defender Gary Cahill is expected to leave Stamford Bridge this summer after failing to climb back into the Blues’ starting line-up.

Derby County are the latest club thought to keen on signing the veteran if they are promoted this weekend.

The Rams face Aston Villa this weekend at Wembley with a place in the Premier League on the line.

Frank Lampard’s side have already shown they are ready to fight for their place in the top flight, after defeating Leeds United in the semi-final.

And according to the Mirror, Lampard wants to bring his former teammate to Pride Park if they clinch promotion.

The 33-year-old has spent the past seven years playing at Stamford Bridge and has won many trophies during this time, but a move away from the Blues is looking likely.

The Rams won’t be only the club after the veteran as his experience at the top will be attractive to many clubs below the former Premier League winners.

Lampard is already preparing for next season by targetting Cahill as they look to strengthen their squad over the summer.
