Alvaro Morata desperate to join Atletico Madrid permanently

Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata is desperate to leave the club and join Atletico Madrid on a permanent deal.

The Spain international returned to his homeland during the January transfer window on an initial loan deal after Gonzalo Higuain arrived at Stamford Bridge from Juventus on a temporary basis.

Morata has since found the back of the net on six occasions from 17 appearances in La Liga for Atletico following his mid-season move.

The former Real Madrid star failed to convince during his time at Chelsea. He arrived for a then-club-record fee worth £60 million and failed to nail down a starting place under both Antonio Conte and Maurizio Sarri.

Higuain replaced Morata in the Blues first team this season, but previously, Olivier Giroud and Eden Hazard had been preferred in the striking role.

The 26-year-old spoke to Spanish news outlet Marca about his plans for the future and insisted that he is keen to spend the rest of his career in the red and white of Atletico.

He said:

I am very clear that I want to stay here. Leaving here has not crossed my mind. I want it to be resolved as soon as possible. I’m happy here. I want to be here for all the years I have left as a professional.

If it was solely down to me, I would have signed my contract with Atletico. It’s what I want, but there are contract matters. I did everything possible to come here and I will do my best to stay.

matchday.
