Andreas Christensen happy to stay at Stamford Bridge

In what was a frustrating start to the 2018/19 season for the 23-year-old, Andreas Christensen regrouped well and finished the campaign strongly.

Christensen was the third choice in the pecking order for the majority of the season as Sarri preferred David Luiz and Antonio Rudiger as his centre-back partnership.

The Danish defender made 28 appearances in total for the Blues last season with 15 of those coming in their title-winning Europa League campaign.

Christensen got that all important game time during the last two months of Chelsea’s campaign after Rudiger suffered an unfortunate knee injury in the Blues’ 1-1 draw against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

The Dane has been discussing his end to the season in an interview with the London Evening Standard.

The end of the season has been as good as it could. I got a lot of playing time and we ended up winning a trophy, so it couldn’t be better.

With so much speculation about Sarri leaving, the young defender should fancy his chances of starting regularly next season as David Luiz was somewhat sub-par throughout last season.

It looks like Christensen will be at the heart of the Chelsea defence for many years to come as the young defender ruled any imminent move away from the Blues.

I’m happy to be in London and, with the way the season has evolved, there’s no reason to think about it anymore.
