Chelsea could pull out of Kovacic deal
Chelsea could pull out of a permanent deal to sign Mateo Kovacic from Real Madrid this summer.
According to the Evening Standard, Maurizio Sarri’s impending move to Juventus has cast serious doubts over a deal for the Croatian midfielder, despite initial talks with Real Madrid taking place.
While Chelsea have no official option to buy, Kovacic is one of the players the Blues are able to sign indefinitely this summer.
Despite the transfer ban, Kovacic can complete a permanent move to Stamford Bridge as he is already registered as a Chelsea player, providing a permanent deal is done before his original loan agreement expires.
Kovacic enjoyed something of an indifferent season on loan from Real Madrid, with supporters unsure if he has done enough to warrant a permanent move.
In midfield, Chelsea are likely to be without Ruben Loftus-Cheek for the rest of the year, while Mason Mount could push for a first-team spot after impressing on loan at Derby last season.
