Maurizio Sarri departed Chelsea after just one season in charge of the English side, and he has since suggested that star player Eden Hazard was one of the problems during his time in charge.
Speaking at his unveiling in Turin, as reported by the Mirror, Sarri reflected on his time in London.
Sarri went on to say that although talismanic figure Eden Hazard could change the game, his presence on the pitch made it harder to defend and caused the football to be less fluid.
We had to accommodate Eden Hazard’s characteristics. He could change the game, but also his presence caused issues in defending that we had to work on.
Both Sarri and Hazard have now departed for Juventus and Real Madrid respectively and the Italian admits he will have to face up to new challenges back in his native country.
The Italian admitted it was harder to implement his ‘Sarri-ball’ at Chelsea than at previous clubs Napoli and Empoli as the players didn’t really fit the system.
I arrive at Juventus from Chelsea and the step might spark less scepticism, but I do come from a history and so I expect some rancour.
The Blues now have the task of putting a new manager in place, which is expected to be Frank Lampard and building on the recent success in the Europa League.
