Derby give Lampard permission to speak to Chelsea

Derby County have confirmed that they have given Frank Lampard permission to speak to Chelsea about their vacant managerial role.

The Championship club have released an official statement to confirm that Lampard is due to hold talks with the Blues.

In a move that many expect to be completed this week, Lampard has been the overriding favourite to replace Maurizio Sarri at Stamford Bridge.

Reports have suggested that a deal should be wrapped up by the end of the week, with both clubs eager to finalise their business and in Derby’s case, bring in a replacement for Lampard.

Lampard has been the clear favourite for the Blues gig after the club were impressed with his first season in management.

The club are known to be particularly impressed by his handlings of both Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori, two players who could be key for Chelsea in years to come.
