Chelsea and Tottenham are among the teams interested in signing young Schalke goalkeeper Alexander Nubel.
According to Kicker, as cited on Calcio Mercato, Chelsea will rival Spurs, PSG and Atletico Madrid for the 22-year-old.
Nubel is widely considered as one of the better up and coming young goalkeepers in the Bundesliga and after making 18 league appearances last season, he’ll certainly have his eyes on the number one spot at Schalke.
Keen to oust the experienced Ralf Fahrmann in between the sticks, Nubel will be hoping to impress under David Wagner next season.
The performances he has put in already for the German side haven’t gone unnoticed, with top teams across Europe keeping a close eye on him. Standing at an impressive 6’3”, Nubel is certainly an imperious figure.
Chelsea are currently under a transfer ban, but Nubel looks to be a player that they will keep on their radar, should he remain at Schalke beyond the current summer window.
Four young stars who could step up at Chelsea next season
Never really got going under Maurizio Sarri, but he’ll be hoping to impress under Frank Lampard, should he land the job as expected.
Many expect Reece James to be in and around the first-team squad next season after impressing on loan at Wigan.
Could he really lead the line for Chelsea next season? It is looking increasingly likely that he’ll be given a shot.
Callum Hudson-Odoi appears to be recovering well and will hope to play a big role in the first-team squad next season once fully fit.
