Lampard signs Chelsea contract with announcement edging closer

Frank Lampard has reportedly signed his contract to take over at Chelsea, with an official announcement edging ever closer.

According to Pete O’Rourke, Lampard has finally put pen to paper as he prepares to take the Chelsea job in what will only be his second season in management.

Derby County confirmed last week that they had allowed Lampard to hold talks with Chelsea over the vacant job.

It was also revealed this morning that he had been excused from pre-season training, with the Derby players returning from their holidays on Monday.

The latest reports suggest that it is just a matter of time before the club’s former midfielder is unveiled as their new manager.

Lampard has been the only viable candidate for Chelsea as they look to replace Maurizio Sarri, with the two-window transfer ban making the job an unattractive prospect for some managers across Europe.
