Chelsea not considering €15m deal for Boga

Chelsea are not thought to be considering a deal for Sassuolo midfielder Jeremie Boga, despite holding a €15m buy-back clause.

According to GOAL, a number of clubs, including Napoli and Everton, are interested in Boga, but Chelsea are not showing any signs of wanting to do a deal to bring him back to Stamford Bridge.

The report claims that Chelsea would be able to sign him for €15m if they wanted to, due to a clause agreed in the sale of him to Sassuolo for €4m back in 2018.

Boga has impressed in the Serie A for Sassuolo, with a WhoScored rating of 7.14 for his performances this season. For context, that would see him rank 4th in Chelsea’s squad this season, behind Willian, Marcos Alonso and Tammy Abraham – who all boast eye-catching ratings.

The former Chelsea man has scored four goals from midfield for Sassuolo, including a goal in a 2-2 draw against Juventus back in December. However, Chelsea have a number of options in the midfield area and it is not a position in which they need to strengthen, given the likes of Mason Mount, Christian Pulisic, Ross Barkley, Mateo Kovacic and Ruben Loftus-Cheek can all play there.

Due to the players available to Frank Lampard in his position, it is not a deal that Chelsea need to do. This could be why they have opted against using their option to re-sign him for €15m, as it would be of little improvement to their overall squad.
