Chelsea ‘desperate’ to sign Chilwell with Leicester ‘concerned’ over his desire to leave

Chelsea are ‘desperate’ to sign Leicester City left-back Ben Chilwell.

That’s according to the Daily Express, who claim that the Foxes are now growing ‘concerned’ that the defender is determined to leave the King Power Stadium.

The report adds that Frank Lampard views the England international as a perfect signing to solve his current left-back problems, however, Leicester will reportedly demand a large fee if they are forced to part ways with their academy product.

Finally, according to the Mirror, cited by the Express Leicester are looking at Manchester United’s Luke Shaw as a possible Chilwell replacement.

In our opinion, a deal for Chilwell would be a brilliant piece of business from the Blues.

Lampard has worked wonders with plenty of young English stars at Stamford Bridge in recent months, with Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount, Fikayo Tomori and Reece James all establishing themselves in the first-team this season.

Chilwell, who has 11 England caps to his name, could be the next man to flourish under Lampard and nail down the left-back role for years to come, should he swap Leicester for London.

Left-back looks like it’s an area of concern for Lampard, who has flicked between Emerson and Marcos Alonso, with the pair making a combined 20 top-flight appearances this season, as per Whoscored.com.

Chilwell has turned out 18 times under Brendan Rodgers and boasts better stats in multiple areas than the Blues duo.

He averages more blocks and clearances than Emerson and Alonso, while also averaging more key passes per game.

Chilwell’s attempted more passes and has more league assists than the two combined.

At 23, he still has plenty of time to improve his already impressive game, so we feel that a move for Chilwell should be a no brainer to the Blues.
