Frank Lampard and his staff are preparing for what could be perhaps the biggest night in his early managerial career, with the Blues preparing to face Bayern Munich in a daunting Champions League second leg.
The Blues travel to Germany looking to overturn a 3-0 defeat from the first leg, with Chelsea thoroughly outclassed at Stamford Bridge last time round, thanks to goals from Serge Gnabry and Robert Lewandowski.
With such a stronghold on the game, the Blues know that they need to score at least four goals on the night to have any chance of progressing, with the champions league odds very much against Lampard and his players, despite their famous victories against Bayern in the past.
Chelsea can take some hope from the fact that they have scored four or more goals on five separate occasions this season across all competitions, most recently against Everton in the Premier League.
However, it is at the back where Chelsea’s problems lie – Frank Lampard’s men have managed just two clean sheets in their last 10 games. Out of the 10 teams in the top half of the Premier League, only Tottenham and Burnley (40) have conceded more goals domestically than the Blues (39) this season.
While Chelsea might be able to impose themselves on Bayern Munich next week, if they can’t keep the Germans quiet in attack then the Blues look set for an exit from the Champions League at the round of 16 stage.
