Willian prepared to play for Chelsea beyond the end of his contract

Chelsea forward Willian has revealed that he is prepared to play for the club beyond the end of his contract if needs be.

With the Premier League season currently suspended and any return date up in the air, Willian has stressed that he would be willing to play for Chelsea after his contract expires in order to complete the campaign.

Speaking to Brazilian TV channel Esporte Interativo, as translated by The Metro, Willian said:

My contract really ends, I think, in July.

And if I had to play on those dates, in these months, I think it would be no problem for me to end the League in a way which would be loyal to the club, as they always were with me, regardless of a signed paper. But it’s clear that this is not a certainty, we don’t know what can happen. But without a doubt, as always, I will always be ready to give the best to my club, regardless of my contract situation.

Mundo Deportivo have reported that Tottenham are leading the race to land Willian on a free transfer this summer. However, their plans could be thwarted by Willian’s decision to potentially extend his deal to finish the season with Chelsea.

It all depends on how long Willian extends his contract by. If they are able to pen a one-month contract for the Brazilian to finish the games, Tottenham could then sign him at the end of that month. Although, there could also be a scenario where Willian ends up signing a year extension and Tottenham are unable to snap the forward up on a free.
