Chelsea head coach Frank Lampard has held his press conference ahead of the Blues’ Champions League clash against French side Rennes on Wednesday night.

The 42-year-old provided updates on the fitness of some of his key players as well as the impact made by Edouard Mendy as the Senegalese goalkeeper prepares to face his former clubtomorrow night.

Here are the key points from Lampard, via Football.London

On the injuries, and in particular Christian Pulisic: ”Christian had a scan yesterday which showed a very minor injury to his hamstring. He won’t be fit for tomorrow, but we will see after that.”

On his new number one goalkeeper: ”It’s always a collective effort, but he (Mendy) has made a very good start. He has to take credit for that, giving confidence to others as well.”

On his sides start in Europe: ”Where we are in the group we are happy, but we can’t get complacent. We must stay on top of ourselves. The clean sheets have been great. We always want to improve. We have seen some progression but it is a work in progress. We can’t come off.”

Not the Pulisic news anyone associated with the club wanted to hear, but with a host of new arrivals during the summer, Lampard is far less reliant on last season’s star man now.

The USA international missed the start of the new campaign following an injury in the FA Cup final, and he could now face another spell on the sidelines.

Chelsea will be strong favorites against their French visitors, who have picked up one point in Group E from their opening two matches in the competition.
