Frank Lampard Pre-Sheffield United Press Conference: Key Points

Chelsea head coach Frank Lampard has given his pre-match press conference ahead of tomorrow’s game against Sheffield United at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues are in action for the final time before another international break and the hosts can be confident of finishing this period on a high.

Chris Wilder’s side have been struggling this term after a remarkable campaign in 2019/20 saw them finish ninth, having being tipped to struggle by many.

Lampard’s men will be on the hunt for their sixth successive clean sheet against a low-scoring Blades team who have managed just three goals in their opening seven league games.

Here are the key points from the Chelsea boss…

Playing style

”In the last few games. There’s a versatility in the way new players play. We had a slight change in formation and the 4-3-3 worked well recently. There’s a balance with the system and the players need to adjust that as well.”

Title race

”We have to wait. A long way to go. The start has been open, some unexpected results but it may level itself out. I won’t jump ahead too much at the moment but it is open.”

Christian Pulisic

”Not fit to play, still suffering with his hamstring. He’s not training at the moment.”

Sheffield United

”It’s a big challenge. They are an amazing team, an incredible manager. The manager is not false but nowhere near being a guideline of what to expect. They are still a great team. A very, very tough match.”

The prognosis on Pulisic was to be expected, but Blues fans can keep their fingers crossed that another break comes at a timely interval and allows both the American and Kai Havertz to recover nicely.

Lampard is also right not to underestimate tomorrow’s visitors despite their poor start to the season. After all, Wilder’s men picked up four points from matches against the Blues last season, including a resounding 3-0 victory in July.
