According to journalist Simon Phillips, a number of European clubs are interested in signing Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante amid delays over a renewed contract.
Kante has been out of action since the 2-2 draw at home to Tottenham back in August missing each of Chelsea’s last six games.
Indeed it appears that his persistent injury issues are proving difficult when it comes to his future at Stamford Bridge, too.
The 2016/17 PFA Player of the Year sees his current contract in west London expire at the end of the current campaign and as reported by David Ornstein officials at the Bridge were reluctant to meet Kante’s demands of a three-year extension with the option of a further 12 months due to his struggles with injury.
Phillips now understands that plenty of suitors are waiting in the wings should the two parties fail to reach an agreement.
He told GIVEMESPORT: “Obviously, with Kante, the injury track record is a real problem. Chelsea want to give him a new contract, but they don’t want to give him a long-term contract.
“His people and his agents are saying that they only really want a long-term contract, so there’s a situation there to be sorted out.
“There’s other clubs interested and making enquiries. PSG is the biggest one and Juventus, as well, are knocking on the door. There are a lot of clubs lining up to take him as a free agent and prepared to give him more of a contract that he wants.”
Kante has been limited to just 68 Premier League starts since the start of the 2019/20 campaign, under Frank Lampard and Thomas Tuchel, and although Graham Potter will be glad to see him return to full fitness, it could be the right time for the World Cup winner to move on.
He will turn 32 in March and will likely be looking for one final big contract but, over-investing in the 53-cap France ace is something that Todd Boehly is seemingly unwilling to do, and he could very well finish his career at another major European outfit.
