Chelsea are interested in signing Brentford star Ivan Toney, who has been compared to Blues legend Didier Drogba.

That is according to journalist Pete O’Rourke, who believes the England star brings a lot to the table, honouring him with a comparison to Ivory Coast and Chelsea icon Drogba.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, O’Rourke said: “He’s similar in style to Drogba, whether he’s as good a player as Didier Drogba, that’s still open for debate.

“Drogba is a Chelsea legend, played at the highest level throughout his career as well, so Ivan Toney’s still got a lot to do to be named amongst those like Didier Drogba. We know what Ivan Toney brings to the table. He’s a good frontman, can lead the line, can score goals and he’s very powerful in the air.”

The Next Drogba?

With his coolness and ability to lead a side from the frontline, you can understand why O’Rourke has drawn natural comparisons to Drogba.

Toney is enduring a stellar season for Brentford, scoring 10 goals in 14 appearances yet still somehow missing out on inclusion for England’s World Cup squad.

The 26-year-old, who has 22 Premier League goals throughout his career so far, could not have done much more in that regard but did send a message to Gareth Southgate with a beautifully taken brace against Champions Manchester City in what made for the ultimate statement.

You get the impression that £50million Toney’s confidence in front of goal cannot be penetrated, and he could just be the one to break Chelsea’s striker curse.

In the Brentford star, Chelsea could sign a player close to the profile of Drogba in a move that the majority of the SW6 fanbase would adore.
