Chelsea still remain “in touch” with AC Milan talisman Rafael Leao.

That is according to journalist Carlo Garganese, who understands the SW6 side are one of the main clubs in contention for the World Cup star’s signature.

The side are “still in touch” with an eye on Leao’s contract which expires at the end of next season (2024).

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Garganese said: “Leão’s contract runs out in 2024. Chelsea, they’re still in touch, they’re one of the main clubs, but they’re not the only club that are interested in him.

“Real Madrid are also interested in him as well.”

The fight for Leao

With Real Madrid also said to be in for Portugal star Leao, it is clear that Chelsea will face a battle to sign the attacker.

Chelsea have struggled for goals this season and currently rank as the seventh-lowest scoring side in the Premier League, having bagged just 17 goals.

Luckily for the Blues, they are listed as one of the main clubs who are in for him, and quite frankly the 23-year-old is needed.

For context, Erling Haaland alone has scored more than that total, having bagged 18 in what has so far been an unbelievable transition into the Premier League.

Leao is an asset who could certainly boost the attacking output of Graham Potter’s side, and is showing exactly why this season.

Before departing for Qatar with Portugal’s World Cup squad, Leao garnered 10 attacking returns in the form of six goals and four assists in 14 Serie A games.

That total would place him top for both metrics, with Raheem Sterling coming closest for his combined goals and assists total of four.

There will certainly be a fight for Leao, but Chelsea seem as though they’re in a positive position to acquire his services.
