Chelsea may look to reunite Graham Potter with one of his former favourites at Brighton, with the club said to have identified Spain international Robert Sanchez as their “main target.”

That is according to journalist Simon Phillips, who believes the Brighton number one will emerge as Potter’s preferred option to replace Edouard Mendy, despite the fact that nothing has been finalised as of yet.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Phillips said: “At the moment I’m told that Sanchez from Brighton is the main target to replace him.

“They have looked at Jordan Pickford and they have been watching him again recently on scouting missions, but at the moment, Sanchez, purely because Potter knows him, Potter had him at Brighton, he’s the main target to replace Mendy.“

Tough call

Last season under Potter, Sanchez ranked among the top 10 goalkeepers in the Premier League, based on save percentage.

With a save percentage of 70.6%, the World Cup star ranked 7th, 0.4% lower than Hugo Lloris and 0.4% higher than Chelsea’s Mendy, who also conceded 11 less goals than the Spaniard.

Add in Kepa Arrizabalaga to the equation and the situation becomes a tough call on the whole, with the current Chelsea number one averaging a save percentage of 77.2% over the last calendar year, as per FBref.

There is no doubt that Sanchez would shine at Stamford Bridge, though it is worth noting that the current options in Kepa and Mendy are just as worthy of a chance, with both Blues stars similarly ranked to the Brighton keeper.
