Chelsea have upped the ante in their attempts to lure £45million World Cup star Josko Gvardiol from the clutches of RB Leipzig.

What’s the word?

That is according to transfer insider Dean Jones, who understands that the club are fully focused in bringing Gvardiol to Stamford Bridge and have not contemplated bringing in any other defenders.

Jones acknowledges that Chelsea have accelerated talks for the star with the insider adding that the Blues remain hopeful of securing a deal.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Jones said: “On the back of his World Cup performances, this is the time to accelerate talks with Gvardiol, not find an alternative.

“As far as I understand, that is exactly what’s happened. Chelsea are looking to get this Gvardiol deal sealed as soon as they possibly can.”

Phenom

At his tender age, Gvardiol is quite simply a phenom.

For RB Leipzig, the defender has been a rock with his average of 2.4 clearances per 90 illustrating his identity as a no-nonsense centre-back.

And his presence is held in even greater regard on the ball, registering himself as the Bundesliga side’s most pro-active passer.

Operating from the back, averages 75 accurate passes per 90 with a sum average of 5.1 accurate long balls per 90

This is just a further indication of his efficiency in possession.

The Croatia star shone at the World Cup, helping his side to bust their way into the latter stages of the tournament, with Gvardiol playing a pivotal role in helping his side to a well-deserved bronze medal.

Chelsea are right to prioritise the young star who is already exceptional at this young age.
