Chelsea had a busy summer transfer window in 2025 as they spent significant money in order to strengthen their squad. The Blues brought in in the likes of Jamie Gittens, Joao Pedro, Liam Delap, Alejandro Garnacho, Jorrel Hato and Facundo Buonanotte, on loan from Brighton, as their new recruits.
Pedro has scored the majority of the goals from the new signings. The Brazilian has netted a total of 13 times since joining Chelsea. On the other hand, Delap has only contributed by scoring thrice, and only once in the Premier League. That is a low number, especially for a striker.
Delap was brought in from Ipswich Town for a fee of £30 million. He had enjoyed a 12-goal season in the Premier league last time around. But that could not prevent his team from getting relegated to the Championship.
Now according to reports, the Blues could let the 23-year-old leave on a loan move at the end of this season. Despite his poor run of form, suitors are already looking to sign the Englishman even if it’s on a temporary basis.
Manchester United remained interested in Chelsea’s Liam Delap
As reported by Mark Brus on Caught Offside, the journalist has been told that Chelsea will be open to a loan this summer. The Blues might even be open to permanent offers straight away. Manchester United are still interested in Delap. The club failed to sign him last summer.
Similar to the Blues, Manchester United also went through the same scenario at the beginning of this year. They parted ways with Ruben Amorim. The club have brought in Michael Carrick as their interim manager till end of this season.
This situation might put a pause to the Manchester United’s plans for the summer transfer window. The club might wait to confirm their long-term manager before pursuing new signings.
Who could replace Delap at Chelsea?
With Liam Rosenior confirmed as the Chelsea’s long-time manager, the Blues might hope to replace Delap with a more effective goalscorer before the start of the new season. A Nicolas Jackson return has not been ruled out.
The AFCON winner has not made the desired impact on loan at Bayern Munich. It is unlikely that the Bavarians will take up the €70 million clause to sign him permanently.
Jackson had his issues with finishing chances. But overall, he brought a lot more to Chelsea’s game than Delap has been able to since his move from Ipswich Town in the summer.
