A lot has been made of Enzo Fernandez’s comments after the game against PSG. The midfielder did not rule out an exit when asked about it, after reports had broken in Argentina that there were chances he could leave the club. It would have come as a relief to many supporters that he was not only starting against Everton, but also had the armband.
That was not enough to prevent Chelsea from slumping to their fourth-straight defeat. 3-0 away at the Hill Dickinson Stadium against Everton. It was also the third time on the trot that they have failed to score.
Incidentally, it was Fernandez who came closest for Chelsea. The ball broke for him inside the box and the Argentine did well to keep it down despite taking the shot on the bounce. Jordan Pickford was up to the task though and pulled off a brilliant save to deny him.
Chelsea’s recent results have been a blow to this team and a clear sign of where they stand, four years into the BlueCo project. In Rosenior, they seem to have a manager who might not be ready for a job of this magnitude. Under these circumstances, the last thing they need is for players like Fernandez to leave.
Gary Cahill shares what he has heard about Enzo Fernandez and his relationship with Liam Rosenior
Fernandez recently admitted that he was not happy with the club’s decision to sack Enzo Maresca. Many took that as a sign that he was pleased with working under Rosenior.
That might not be the case after all. According to The Chelsea Chronicle, Gary Cahill said while speaking on Sky Sports:
When he spoke, he was misinterpreted with some of the words that he said. And emotionally, it was too quick to speak after the game, very emotional.
“He’s one of the leaders in the dressing room and I know he has a great relationship with the manager. I think he’s fully committed, and you’ve seen that today again with the captain’s armband.”
How long does Rosenior have left as Chelsea manager?
Rosenior might have a good relationship with his Chelsea players. Truth be told, he is a likeable character. That was one of the reasons the fans quickly bought in after his appointment.
Ultimately though, a Chelsea manager is always going to be measured by the results. Right now, Rosenior is not producing them.
In fact, these results are starting to remind me of the Graham Potter. Not only are things not going Chelsea’s way, you can’t even think of ways in which they can improve.
They look suspect at the back, have all season. There is a reason Maresca wanted a centre-back to be signed when Levi Colwill was injured. And the Blues have regressed going forward under Rosenior. They seem to have no clear idea on how to break down opponents. This is not a team that is unlucky not to score. This is one that does not even look likely to do so.
