It would be safe to say that Cole Palmer has not been at his best for a while now. A large part of that is down to his injury problems. The Englishman has been dealing with a groin issue for a while. He has already spent multiple spells on the sidelines. And recently, Chelsea have adopted a load management strategy in hopes of helping him remain fit.
Palmer has played a lot more recently. He is not back in form though. The midfielder has continued to struggle to impact games like he used to in the past. Perhaps, it is just a matter of him needing more time and rediscovering his confidence. Or is there more to it?
There have been whispers for months now that Palmer could be considering a Chelsea exit. It is easy to see why that might be the case. The Blues have not been able to deliver success consistently since the BlueCo takeover. And top players won’t want to get stuck in a team that seems to be in constant transition, never ready to take the next step and start winning big prizes.
Obviously, Manchester United have been stuck in a rut much longer than Chelsea. So, would that kind of a move intrigue Palmer?
What does Cole Palmer think about potential Manchester United move?
According to The Sun, Manchester United, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are interested in Palmer. He would be open to joining the Reds, but the club’s priority positions this summer are midfield and the left-hand side.
On the other hand, Chelsea consider Palmer to be an ‘untouchable’. Also, the Englishman has a contract at Stamford Bridge that runs until the summer of 2033. So, that should give them a lot of leverage when it comes to any potential move.
What should Chelsea do if Palmer wants to leave for Manchester United?
There have been some suggestions that Palmer is homesick. It is unclear how accurate they are. But if it is accurate, then the Manchester United rumours do make sense.
At the same time, one cannot overlook the fact that he grew up supporting Manchester United despite coming through the Man City academy. Wayne Rooney is believed to have been his footballing idol. So, there could be an emotional connection that draws him towards Old Trafford, although professional footballers seldom make decisions based on such things.
For Chelsea, there should not be any consideration about letting Palmer leave. An exit should only be sanctioned if it becomes absolutely unavoidable.
