Amidst all the ups and downs that Chelsea have been through this season, injuries remain a constant problem at the club. But as we now enter the final phases of the current campaign, we have been handed some positive news.
There is no denying the fact that the Blues have failed to build on their successes from last season. After winning the Club World Cup, they were looking like serious title contenders, even until their 1-1 draw against Arsenal, as they played a major chunk of the game with 10 men following Moises Caicedo’s red card.
Since then, it has all come crashing down for the Blues. A series of inconsistent results saw them gradually slipping out of the top four, which ultimately led to the sacking of Enzo Maresca on the first of 2026.
Of course, it is worth pointing out that there were whispers of a falling out between Maresca and BlueCo. That might have been the primary reason behind the decision to sack him.
Chelsea’s injury problems throughout the campaign
Maresca’s tactics cannot be blamed entirely. The Italian manager had to adjust according to the unfortunate injuries suffered by his players during the first half of the season. Levi Colwill has not even played. Two of Chelsea’s top stars, Cole Palmer and Reece James, have been plagued by injury throughout the campaign.
Palmer is finally looking like himself after recovering from a persistent groin injury, which seemed to restrict the Englishman for a long time. On the contrary, the Chelsea captain is out injured once again. But there finally seems to be some light at the end of the tunnel for James.
Chelsea handed major injury boost
According to GIVEMESPORT, sources had initially expected James to be out for several weeks. But the Chelsea captain could potentially return this month or by early May at the latest.
So, it looks like James could be ready for the final few matches of the current season. That could prove vital for Chelsea as they are in a tight race to qualify for the Champions League. It almost means he is not expected to miss the World Cup. Thomas Tuchel is expected to include him in the squad if he is fit.
James’ positive update couldn’t have come at a better time with back-to-back games against the Manchester giants scheduled over the next two weekends. There is also a trip to Anfield to take on Liverpool on May 9.
