The summer transfer window is still some distance away. Before it opens, Chelsea have a lot to play for. And what they do over these next few weeks could determine the level of investment they will be able to make. The club were already handed a fine by UEFA last year and will need to work under some boundaries this time around. Also, they lost £264 million during the 24/25 season.
Those are staggering numbers. Chelsea need to qualify for the Champions League. But unfortunately, based on current form, they seem more likely to miss out than make it.
It remains to be seen how things will play out. It is not stopping the Blues from eyeing some high-profile names ahead of the summer though. In fact, one of them could cost them around £100 million.
The player we are talking about is Morgan Rogers. An update emerged last night regarding the Aston Villa player’s situation and which clubs are interested in signing him this summer.
Chelsea in race with Man Utd, Arsenal and PSG to sign Morgan Rogers
According to The Telegraph, a near-£100 million transfer race is developing between Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Paris St-Germain to sign Rogers in the summer. All four clubs are keen on signing the England international.
Rogers signed a long-term extension with Aston Villa recently. But the Birmingham-based club are facing financial pressures going into the summer. And that might remain the case, even if they qualify for the Champions League.
Aston Villa signed Rogers for around £15 million. Thus, it would be tough for them to pass on the chance to get several times that figure, just a couple of years later.
All four clubs might interest Rogers
Rogers will be a man in demand this summer. It is very likely he will have a pick of some of the top teams in Europe. So, where would he like to play next, if he does leave Aston Villa?
He already knows Michael Carrick well. The manager played a big role in his development at Middlesbrough. On the other hand, Arsenal are the best team in England right now. As for PSG, they are the current holders of the Champions League and are in the mix to retain it this time around.
Chelsea will be a unique one in many ways. For Rogers, it might be easiest to walk in and get a starting spot at Stamford Bridge. He can play on the left flank, which has been a weakness for the Blues since Eden Hazard left. At the same time, Cole Palmer is one of his best friends in football, which might help facilitate a move.
