David Ornstein confirms whether Chelsea will sack Liam Rosenior if they fail to qualify for UCL

It would be an understatement to say that Liam Rosenior is under pressure at the moment. The 7-0 result against Port Vale must have released some of it, but one cannot forget Chesea had lost four on the trot before that. And if they drop points against Manchester City this weekend, they will have one win in their last seven Premier League outings. You cannot afford that. Not when you are in a race to qualify for the Champions League.

A lot of fans seem to believe that Rosenior’s future at Chelsea hinges on that Champions League qualification. After all, the Blues need to get to it badly.

Firstly, because of the financial implications. They recently announced a £264 million loss in the 24/25 campaign. Secondly, without Champions League football, their key players might start leaving. There has already been a lot of noise around Enzo Fernandez. Marc Cucurella, Cole Palmer and Moises Caicedo won’t remain content for long either if Chelsea don’t start competing at the top level soon.

Despite that, it does not look like Rosenior’s job is at any risk. On the contrary, it might be a while before the club even give sacking him a thought.

David Ornstein drops update on Liam Rosenior’s Chelsea future

As reported by The Chelsea Chronicle, according to David Ornstein (per NBC Sports), the Blues do not intend to review Rosenior until at the earliest the summer of 2027. The Englishman will remain the club’s manager next season, whether they make the Champions League or not.

To be honest, this is what I have always felt as well. BlueCo would not rush into sacking Rosenior. That would be an open admission that they got it wrong once again.

Instead, expect him to be given every chance to succeed. He is the most BlueCo appointment yet. Someone who has been brought in largely because he already under their umbrella at Strasbourg.

Chelsea’s fans won’t be happy with this decision

BlueCo might be content to continue with Rosenior as manager, even if Chelsea fail to make the Champions League. The same cannot be said about the fans though.

Most had their doubts about Rosenior’s credentials for the job before he was appointed. And their fears seem to have come true over the last three months.

Rosenior had done decent jobs at Hull City and Strasbourg. But that is hardly a comparable level to Chelsea. The level of pressure here is a different world, at least when it comes to the fans’ expectations.

At no point has there been much to suggest that Rosenior is building a winning project at Chelsea. Yes, they did get some positive results early on, but a lot of it was down to individual brilliance. The Blues have never really played top-class football under the Englishman’s watch.

If you ask me, it is inevitable that the Rosenior era is not going to work out for Chelsea either. It is just about when BlueCo decide to make the change. But with every poor appointment, the Blues are slipping further away from the elite of European football.
