Over the last few weeks, there has been a lot of talk about players being unhappy with Chelsea’s direction. And that is understandable given the circumstances. We are four years into the BlueCo project. Initially, it had been suggested that they were looking to build one of the best teams in Europe over a four-window spell.
BlueCo have had twice the amount of time now. But it feels like Chelsea have been going around in circles. The squad is not good enough to even qualify for the Champions League, forget about competing with the Best in Europe.
It is natural for top players to want to leave in this situation. They will want to win trophies and compete with the best, and not find themselves in a tight race for Champions League qualification every season, if that.
Enzo Fernandez might have a foot out of the exit door already. Marc Cucurella has criticised the club’s transfer policy publicly. There are rumours that Cole Palmer might be eyeing a move away as well. But amidst all this, one player who has not complained about the situation is Moises Caicedo. On the contrary, he has now doubled down on his future with Chelsea.
Moises Caicedo agrees new contract with Chelsea
According to Fabrizio Romano, Caicedo’s new contract at Chelsea will have an improved salary and two more years, running until June 2033. He also totally shares the club’s view for the long term. The Italian journalist has given it his famous ‘Here we go’ seal. The announcement is expected next.
Caicedo is arguably Chelsea’s most important player right now. Thus, it will come as a relief to fans that he has signed an extension with the club.
Of course, his patience with the project needs to be rewarded by building a winning team. Otherwise, it might be inevitable for him to want to leave at some point in the future.
Why Caicedo signing a new deal might hint at Chelsea’s transfer plans
In the last few weeks, it has been increasingly suggested that Chelsea are willing to tweak their transfer strategy. The club might be ready to bring in some experience into the squad.
The fact that players like Reece James and Caicedo have signed new deals in recent times might be a good indicator that the club’s transfer plans for the summer are positive and aimed at turning this team into a winning one.
Of course, all of this speculation right now. We can only know for sure in the summer, when it is up to BlueCo to deliver on the promises. They have a lot to prove.
