Things might not be going Chelsea’s way, but they are much worse for Tottenham Hotspur at the moment. Spurs are in the relegation zone right now, sitting at 18th. And teams ahead of them are starting to open up a gap. Nottingham Forest won this weekend to go four points clear. West Ham United are a point ahead and have a game in hand as well.
It does feel like it will come down to one of those three teams when it comes to that 18th spot. And whoever it turns out to be, Chelsea might be keeping an eye out for potential bargain deals for quality talent, as a result of being relegated to the Championship.
Murillo and Elliot Anderson of Nottingham Forest are rumoured to be on their radar. Jarrod Bowen of West Ham United could become a transfer target as well in case of relegation. And a 20-year-old Tottenham Hotspur midfielder is also drawing their interest.
According to Caught Offside, Chelsea and Arsenal remain interested in Lucas Bergvall of Tottenham Hotspur with “creative offers” possible.
Chelsea linked with move for Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Lucas Bergvall
Bergvall plays in the middle of the park for Tottenham Hotspur. It is believed that the Spurs management see him as a core part of this midfield for years to come and don’t want to part ways with him.
If Tottenham end up getting relegated, players will push for moves though. And one would imagine that Bergvall would be one such name. Understandably so as top clubs are interested in him.
Now, it remains to be seen if Chelsea end up making a concrete offer for Bergvall in the summer transfer window or not. He is a talent for sure. That being said, is he someone who will solve the Blues’ problems right now?
Could Bergvall solve Chelsea’s problems?
Bergvall is 20 years old and already a regular for Tottenham Hotspur as well as the Swedish national team. He can play as a defensive midfielder, a number 8 or even a number 10.
Of course, it is worth pointing out that Chelsea could be looking to sign a midfielder this summer. Enzo Fernandez is believed to be eyeing a potential exit. On the other hand, there have also been suggestions that the club could be open to offers for Andrey Santos and Romeo Lavia.
Signing Bergvall won’t be straightforward though. Firstly, Tottenham have rarely allowed their players to join direct London rivals. Secondly, any talks would start at around £50 million, a steep figure. Thirdly, there is going to be interest from other top clubs.
