14-goal striker returns to Chelsea with unknown injury problem

Chelsea are facing a bit of an injury crisis at the moment, which has not helped as they struggle for any kind of form and consistency under Liam Rosenior. Levi Colwill has not played a single minute this season. On the other hand, Reece James is back on the sidelines as well. Estevao had only returned from a fitness issue but has now picked up a hamstring problem, which could not only prevent him from playing further this season, but also puts his World Cup in question. Fortunately, it looks like Enzo Fernandez was dealing with just fatigue by the end of the Manchester United game.

It is not just players currently at Chelsea who are dealing with injury problems though. There are some away on loan as well, whose campaigns have been derailed due to fitness issues.

One player who has enjoyed a pretty solid season out on loan is Jimmy-Jay Morgan. The striker joined Peterborough United on loan, a club known for producing quality forwards. Ivan Toney was on their books at one point in time.

Morgan has been helped by his time there, and he has scored 14 goals this season. That has drawn the interest of multiple Championship clubs. But now, the striker has picked up an unknown injury and has been sent back to Chelsea.

Striker returns to Chelsea with unknown injury

According to the Peterborough Telegraph, Morgan has been sent back to Chelsea in a bid to get to the bottom of an injury issue. He has now missed the previous two games for his club with an unspecified issue.

The Peterborough United boss said regarding his current situation:

“He’s struggling with one problem. He has some pain when he’s tested and that’s an indicator that something is wrong.

“He’s been back to Chelsea and had an MOT there and there is some small problem there, but it is not too terrible. Unfortunately he can’t play at the moment.”

Could Morgan have a future in Chelsea’s squad?

To be honest, it looks somewhat unlikely that Morgan, who came through the youth ranks at Cobham, is being lined up for a future role at Chelsea. At the very least, he will have to prove himself at a higher level.

The 20-year-old has done a very good job, scoring 14 times on loan at Peterborough United. But at the end of the day, that has come at the League One level.

If Chelsea do see a future for him at the club, he will be sent on loan to the Championship next season. If they do not, it is very possible that the Blues might consider parting ways with him on a permanent basis in the summer transfer window.

matchday.
